Quality is once again expected to make a comeback to the Pakistani cinemas as there are numerous commercial and feature films lined up for release in the near future that are certainly expected to create ripples in almost dead waters of the Pakistani film industry.
Earlier this year, we saw the release of two films that attracted quite a lot of audience despite their low budget and unknown faces.‘Siyaah‘ was a horror movie and ‘Chambaili‘ was based on the socio-political issues that our nation faces.
Then there has been another movie by the name of Seedlings which is making waves internationally and its lead actress Aamina Sheikh has bagged some very prestigious awards for this movie. It is expected to release soon in Pakistan with an Urdu title of ‘Lamha’.
There are two more movies by the name of ‘Kolachi‘ and ‘Rafina‘ directed by Mansoor Mujahid and Sabiha Sumar respectively. These 2 movies are also expected to hit the cinemas very soon but as of now their release date is still unknown.
Out of all these under-production movies, the most anticipated movie is ‘Ajnabee Shehr Mein’ that has been directed by Saqib Malik. This movie is under-production for a long time but is certainly expected to be a huge thing if it actually gets released. Saqib Malik has been in the film making industry for a long time and has given us some brilliant music videos in the form of Fuzon’s blockbuster Khamaaj, Ali Azmat’s Na Re Na and Ali Zafar’s Dekha, just to name a few.
The real fun begins here as we move to films that are most expected to release on this Eid. And we are expecting the release of at least 4 heavy-duty films on this Eid.
The top most release on this Eid will be that of ‘Waar‘ which is one of the most awaited movie in the recent times after its trailer got released one and a half year back.
Then there is another movie by the name of ‘Main Hoon Shahid Afridi‘ that is directed by Ali Raza and is produced by veteran TV actor Humayun Saeed. The film that will be based on the life time of cricketing star Shahid Afridi is all set for a release on this Eid.
‘Zinda Bhaag‘ and ‘Josh‘ are two other movies that will be hopefully releasing on this Eid.
In the latter half of this year, ‘Tamanna‘, ‘Kaptaan‘, ‘Manto’, and ‘Gol Chakkar‘ are expected to see the light of the day although their release dates are still not confirmed. But they too have the significance of their own due to some very talented people on board. Kaptaan will be based on the life story of cricketer-turned-philanthropist-turned-politician Imran Khan and is expected to attract a lot of audience. Then there is ‘Manto’ which has been directed by the talented director Sarmad Sultan Khoosat who also directed the ground breaking Humsafar. The shooting of the film has completed and is currently in the editing phase. Also interestingly the role of Manto will be played by the ace director himself.
Gol Chakkar is also one long time awaited movie that will be directed by a real life couple,Shahbaz Shigri and the elegant Aisha Linnea who started her career as a model.
‘The Extortionist’ is another movie that has got some super brains behind it. It will be directed by Summer Nicks and will be produced under the banner of newly launched One Motion Pictures that is owned by Zeba Bakhtiar and her son Azaan Sami Khan.
Jami is also said to have started couple of films. Yes, its Jami who has made some breathtaking videos over the period of time, specially his association with Strings has been remarkable. ‘Morqaye’ and ‘Downward Dog’ are two movies that he is said to have been working on for a long time and insiders claims that his projects will surely take many people by surprise because of its magnitude.
The following are the sneak peek of ‘The Extortionist’ and ‘Morqaye’. (Thanks One Motion Pictures)

And last but not the least, Shoaib Mansoor, the saviour of Pakistani cinema for past one decade is also expected to be working on a new script. Although there has been no confirmation about this but it’s been 2 years since Bol got released so fans are expecting him to come up with something new.
With almost 20 Pakistani movies lined up for the release, the future of Pakistani film industry looks bright in the hands of youngsters who are determined to bring back the quality to the local cinema in a style.
Cheers!
